Well. Re. melee skins, I'm on board if they also skin loadouts, as in giving loadouts a melee skin to go with it. If loadouts remain unskinned, I'll probably post in caps :<
Calling it beta-rewards tho, when atleast some of it costs.... D:

As for Rads. Someone on Reddit pointed out that a case is 1400 rads, while cheapest option to buy is 1200. I am NOT on board with currency bundles that don't line up with what you actually spend said currency on. If there's something I loathe about F2P games, it's having leftover currency when you buy stuff. To buy one case, you have to what? Buy 2400 rads? Then what am I supposed to do with 1k rads? I'm not spending premium currency on crafting thankyouverymuch. It's an obvious ploy to get you to spend/waste more. I hate it.

As for Phantom. Third week in a row they're saying the exact same thing, while having done nothing. Pointless fluff. I'm not gonna agree just because they say it multiple times.

Personally I couldn't care less about melee skins. AFAIR I currently have 14 unlocked weapon cases and 9 keys in my in my inventory.

But if there's people who are into it, knock yourself out. Worst thing that could have is that the game gets funded by a horde of 12 year old phantoms that pester their parents into getting Katana skins.

What's important though that then we get community servers with a knife-only setup where these Phantoms can show off their skins to each other. (And also Sniper only servers, where the useless Vassilis can flock.) So the rest of us can enjoy the game on other servers with more sensible people.

Ingame money currency of course is an amoral practice which will eventually be regulated by law one way or the other. It's sad to see SD jumped the bandwagon. As an article on Looking at In-Game Currencies puts it:

We can look even deeper at why the “Premium Currency” formula works so well. It’s harnessing some well documented psychological patterns with it players. Everybody experienced loss aversion, we are afraid of waste and try hard to avoid it. Premium currency packs take advantage of this loss aversion through the “Sunk Cost” effect to encourage its players to pay more. The “Sunk Cost” effect is when not losing money in a losing proposition becomes the main reason to throw in more money. In this case leaving unspent Premium Currency is the “losing proposition” and the player, having already invested money into the game, is inclined to spend more to acquire additional premium currency and use the unspent currency sitting in their accounts effectively, thereby in their mind, nullifying the initial loss.

It also provides a sound base for further abusive patterns, some of which are explained in an article on Using 'Behavioural Economics' in UX design (sadly the images are broken by now).

SD, if you want to reward beta players, give us Rads proportional to the level we reached in beta. Not sh*tty melee skins...

    One Rad per level?

Tbh I'm fine with this, if you don't want to pay for rads you can still get them by daily reward, arsenal crates and by matches(?).
Their video also mentioned that some of the melee skins would be free if I'm remember it right.

120 rads for me, definitely a huge value, lol

I would also be fine with Rads proportional to the total credits we acquired so far instead of the credits we currently own. ;)

Fast forward into the future weeks after db 1.0. Shoe apologizes again because they brought back the exclusive beta fighter skins claiming they never said it was exclusive when its on video of him saying its exclusive.

C'mon, don't be mean. I'm sure they again gonna change a few pixels on the reissue, thus making them totally different skins.

I don't really care one way or the other about melee weapon skins, but I'm not impressed with the skins they've shown, to be completely honest. Before seeing the video and hearing about melee skins, I was expecting at least maybe some patterned damascus steel blades, or a maybe carbonfiber cricket bat, just something nice to look at in general.

As for the rads currency, I think it's a step in the right direction as long as 2 very important conditions are met:

1: they don't change prices with the addition of the currency. It should just be a 1:1 conversion rate for prices now VS prices once the rad currency is added in terms of everything's value in cash.

2: The earnrate of rads from advancement crates and daily rewards is enough to keep up with the droprate of locked weapon skin cases, assuming you only spend rads on weapon case keys.

I'll be quite satisfied if both of those conditions are met, as currently, there is absolutely no way for a free player to acquire weapon case keys unless splash damage starts giving them out again, or continues letting players purchase them with event currencies (nuclear cheers, hexxads, etc)

    But what are your thoughts?

    • Skins for melee weapons. It seems some will be free and others can be bought via credits through the store. All of them seem to have a solid mirror finish on them though, none of the skins they showed had any patterns or details, even on the handle.
    • Rads, a paid currency with real money. Basically meant to replace everything that costs real money in game. It's still very expensive though, and you don't get much without paying. Only 60 twice a week through daily play and 400-1,200 through an arsenal crate. Weapon and crafting kits are also dissolved into rads.

    • SD is still happy with phantom, even though he keeps popping up as a top player reported issue.

A whole lot of nothing about nothing that does nothing to the game

Do the painted handles throw anyone else off?

Looks really weird on the Beckhill and even worst on the katana since the hilt is supposed to be wrapped in fabric :/

Same. The cricket bat even has the original decal over it, so clearly it's possible not to make the entire thing one colour. I'm not sure why they went with this

If you look closely in the video, the decal has an obvious edge, so I would not be surprised if it had always been a separate texture overlay. My guess is that they only changed the base texture of the bat to a monochrome metallic, they did not create a complete new skin with the base color and the decal. If they had done the later, why not make the decal different then, using a blue palette for the cobalt skin seen in the video?

Long story short, I dislike that mostly because how poorly timed this is.

We just went out of a long period were katana Phantoms were running rampant and turned pubs into the most frustrating gaming experience you can find online. Reddit is even more displeased as ever. Phantom's current state isn't even really satisfying (his invisibility is still heavily affected by your graphic options). What does SD do ? They release melee skins of course !

    Melee skins.

    Just after the Phantom fiasco.

I do not look forward to see the game being turned into a melee fest for at least two weeks. Hopefully the new update is also going to give us some long awaited bugfixes. Aimpunch, Proxy mines, Phantom (I could also add the EV collision bug but this one is a @$!#)... There's just way too much stuff that needs fixing right now but still isn't. The Proxy mine glitchs are already in the game since such a long time it's depressing.

The way I see it, it's because they have a roadmap they must follow at all cost to reach the 1.0 release, no matter what happens. They may take some time about the update they release on the way (Phantom tweak for example) but they can't stagnate too long on them (hence the "Phantoms seems good now"). Feels like the final rush, crossing fingers and hoping everything won't fall apart.

Yeah they rush this because of E3. By that time 1.0 must be ready. Hate when game studios do not take their time. They had plenty of time since beta started.

Yeah I've seen less phantoms than ever tbh. Even before the phantom updates, there were more players playing phantom than there are now. I'd hardly call it a problem or a fiasco. It's more like after all the whining and complaining, phantom is the worst he's ever been.

That's not really any fault of theirs. They've been doing pretty nonstop development since beta with the exception of the months during the death throes of Nexon. The summer squash is a perfect example of why they can't allow the community to bully them into focusing on just one aspect of the game. Once that happens, the community nitpicks every last detail and development halts everywhere else, then we lose a ton of players.

If SD was STILL trying to tweak Phantom, it'd be horrible. At some point you have to say "This is functional and not game breaking, we need to get these other items out first before coming back to it."

I'm glad they're moving forward with their plans, even if I feel like this particular update doesn't add anything necessary to the game.

I really hate ranked, but honestly I wish it was still going. No phantoms, no melee spamming noobs.

    It's almost pure

I too am missing ranked. I only play to get my daily and a mission or 2......doesn't help that my primary vid card pooped the bed and I'm full potato on a HD 5450, but at least it isn't the Intel integrated graphics.....

I don't expect SD to tweak Phantom, I expect them to admit defeat and remove him. ;)
