You know, Windows 10 licence isn't free. $120 for the Home licence, expensive to play a dying game where we are forced to play with/against newbies.

@stayfreshshoe Your links are broken! YOU CANT COPYPASTA STRAIGHT FROM YOUTUBE YA DERP! :dizzy:

@Begin2018 Though their "Free period" has ended, they actually have 3 different ways you can still download it. In fact, his link has one of them underneath (including free licenses...). You can also go grab a school/disabled/library etc license from some of their other areas that's literally just the same free upgrade.

Windows 10 is still very free for computers that have windows 7 and 8 if you bother to look. If you're buying a NEW computer though, it's likely you're paying an upcharge now.

I don't care how much you've played or how good your aim is - If you haven't touched the game at least twice in three months then I see your "opinion" as hot moot.

@Xenithos : "You have a license to install Windows 10 and are upgrading this PC from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. [...] If you don't have a license to install Windows 10 and have not yet previously upgraded to it, you can purchase a copy here"

Then you need Win 10 licence, not only Win 7 or 8.1. I see nothing free for Win 10 activation on this page. It's free to download, free to install, but it isn't free to activate (30 days period with limitations).

  • DeathiDeathi Posts: 483

And I wouldn't promote illegal activations in an open forum, though probably when it comes to Windows10, Microsoft probably will ignore it.

Um, my bad about license on that page. I'd already pulled up a different one. Three things: First, you don't need a license to use windows 10 at all, and the limited settings is literally limited in itself, second: If you enter your windows 7.8 or 8.1 keys it will still give you a digital license exactly like when the upgrade tool came out in the first place, relevant information:

Windows will contact Microsoft’s activation servers and confirm the key to the previous version of Windows is real. If it is, Windows 10 will be installed and activated on your PC. Your PC acquires a “digital license” and you can continue using and reinstalling Windows 10 on it in the future. If you head to Settings > Update & security > Activation after installing Windows in this way, you’ll see the words “Windows is activated with a digital license”.

Even if Microsoft blocks this method in the future, your digital full license will remain intact and you will not have a limited version. I honestly thought everyone knew this.

Anyway, the third point, which is one that I just learned, is that Microsoft got rid of the "Accessibility" method, which was just clicking a box saying you used assistive services/technologies (meant for disabled folks etc) and it would give the same free upgrade of Windows 10. Turns out they blocked this in January something of this year.

@Xenithos : Yes, I checked on news websites and you are right, it's still possible to upgrade freely from Win 7 or 8. It's just Micro$oft isn't clear on their website. Then no need of KMSPico.

Win 10 is less than 28% of the market while Win 7 is still 40%. That's probably the reason...

If people still run a 32bits version of windows, I think they should consider upgrading their whole computer, not only the OS. Just saying...

32 bit can still kick some butt. Windows 7 released with the lowest tier still being that.
Though I can certainly agree that if they're trying to play DB or something newer they really should get the upgrade.

If you lucky you will get a "digital oem/retail" key, if you are not lucky you will get bulk key which is not transferable/recoverable, upgradable, and chance to removed by microsoft.
But in my country there is some pc builder store that sell oem key for ~16USD including coa sticker.

If you're still on Win 7 you're just willingly using a slower, worse OS for the nostalgia rofl. There are 0 benefits to Win 7 over Win 10 at this point.

And yes, can confirm, no activation to Win10 needed to use it at full blast. My laptop has an unregistered install of Win10 right off Microsoft's website and it runs everything fine. I just can't do things like access customizing features like computer colors.

That's actually incorrect, as people have tested their speed and performance benchmarks finding Windows 10 actually runs on par with the older versions; it is only slightly faster in some areas while being slower in others, the differences are negligible and it actually boots up a full 2 seconds slower than Windows 8. Windows 7 boots up slowest of the three, but there is no actual difference in performance with programs from the OS alone across the board; any difference in performance will be coming from elsewhere as the only real differences are in three areas: Boot Time, Sleep, and Hibernation.

For reference here's two links that have the technical details:

    https://www.techspot.com/review/1042-windows-10-vs-windows-8-vs-windows-7/

Yes I know, that's what I'm talking about

Hell WinXP runs x86 programs just as fast as Win7 32bit runs them. That's not the issue lol

The OS is not slower or worse, it's just older... in fact when it comes to smaller amounts of RAM it's recommended NOT to take win10 because it takes a minimum of between 2.5-4gb of ram consistently.

    ...Yes, I know

I don't know anyone with less than 4GB anymore. Even budget PCs come with 8 minimum nowadays.

And any video card being used for gaming will have at least 2GB of it's own RAM so there goes that.

Alright then, @bgyoshi Only reason I was saying what I said is because you said there were zero benefits. There ARE benefits, sure, not enough as we're hitting 2018, but there still are.
