Defenders or Attackers?

  • Is it me or the Defenders/Attackers arrangement is pretty confusing during the lobby?
  • Considering the need to arrange your deck of cards with mercs that suits particular map or strategies, I think that is very annoying not being entirely sure if you are going to be placed alongside with Jackal or CDA. I'm a level 20 and I'm still finding trouble.
  • Yes, there is a list of main objectives when joining a match, but the game can drop you in a team that has nothing to do with it. Nonetheless, the line gets pretty blurried after a while and you actually lose track of which side you supossed to be the next match.
  • In my humble opinion, the team should give a look at this.

I forget which it is, but the top half and the bottom half determine what side you are on. I believe the bottom is Defenders, don't quote me on that though.

It should take you only 2-3 matches on each map to memorise where each of the respawn points are, and you can determine from those what side you are on.

Additionally, when you are loading into a match, it will tell you at the top-left corner of the loading screen what team you are on.

Still though, first impressions are important. If your game seems confusing at first, it'll leave an impact on a player who's already unsure about the game.
Might as well make it clearer, there's no harm in doing so and it's better safe than sorry

I know a lot of people who do other things during loading screens, so it can be easy to miss at times. Sure once you learn that the top is attackers it's not so bad, but as I said for new players, might as well simplify it.

Also the loading screens while joining matches have been broken for a while, they always show defenders regardless of which side the player is actually joining into.

  • I feel like that's the one huge advantage of the new CMM lobby screen everybody seems to forget about.

Haven't touched the casual matchmaking yet. It wasn't implemented in my region, actually.

    At least I'm not insane.

By your comments I see that the whole thing is indeed "cryptic". Players have to pay attention to subliminar cues to determine which side they are on. I think is kind of a bad design.

I find quite frustrating to have a deck that is rendered useless when you are dropped on a team that you wasn't expecting to. Sure you can play with whichever merc you want but some of them are not suitable for all scenarios.

I feel quite surprised that this issue wasn't brought to attention yet (maybe it was?).

  • How hard is it really tho???

When you spawn, what side of the map are you on????

    DONE

So hey, I have a small guide here you may like, go ahead, read it, you know you want to.

You gotta arrange your deck the best way possible to adapt to attack or defense.

My point is the game drops you in a random team that doesn't benefit from your deck arrangement.

Example: When you connect the objectives shown concern a defense team. You expect to be designated to a defense team... so you arrange a deck with a Kira and without a objective specialist, for instance. The games then drops you in a attack team instead. You are not going to do much without an objective specialist.

This is such a non-issue. Play stopwatch, it's a gamemode that makes the most sense and there you go. Also there is no map where having a specific merc is usefull on offense but useless on defense and vice versa. Maybe chapel actually because you only need engie on offense but this map is such a mess that it has other problems than that.

  • Are you playing 1 v 6 or something? your never gonna have the perfect squad loadout thats why you have teammates for, to fill in for what you dont have and vice versa, no one player is expected to do everything.

As great as that sounds, it usually doesn't happen on public matches.
But even then, having defensive mercs in defenders and offensive mercs on attackers can make a huge different when your team either doesn't have any or isn't good enough at them.

  • In the pre-game lobby, the team on the top half where the player list is are the attackers.
If you play casual matchmaking, then it tells you if you are CDA (defenders) or Jackal (attackers)
