Planned Forum Maintenance - 24th May 2018

We will be doing maintenance on 24th May 2018. The forums will be read-only until the maintenance is finished.

snipers on top..

Came back to DB after a few months, & found all snipers at the top of the scoreboard. Lvl8 snipers, lvl180 snipers, doesn't matter, they're at the top now. I don't care about the scoreboard, but we all know what that means, it will attract more & more snipers. @$!# it.

If the game wanna attract more useless snipers, it should at least up the team count to 18 or something, so that each team can have 4 slots wasted by snipers.

Yeah, all snipers are total XP farms, aimee is by far the worst.
I tried barely getting any kills except for self defense just to see how bad it was, ended up topscoring over a bunch of half-decent medics.

Red Eye used to be absolutely ridiculous in terms of XP, but thankfully they nerfed that. Hopefully they get around to the other mercs soon too.
Spotting is useful af, but there's no way its important enough to warrant a 100 XP bonus when someone kills an enemy you looked at.

A lot of people dont realize the use of a spot.
So many situations (more than i can count) where a spotted enemy basically guaranteed me a kill, whether that be from my ability or gun.

I admit it gives a bit too much exp (except for redeye and hunter) tho

Spotting is still useful, but it's arguably one of the easiest things to do in DB. It's just throwing a ball or even looking at the person.
Like I said, getting 100 XP just for looking at an 80 HP merc who someone else kills (and could have very well been killed even if they weren't spotted with how linear and open DB's maps are) is just crazy.

No one is denying spotting is important, but it's not too hard to topscore without ever firing a shot just from spotting XP if you know a good bush to throw your sensor into. And considering things like healing and revives, even ammo are generally more important, it's definitely a bit much, lol

I only top score as Aimee when my team is garbage or I'm doing exceptionally good. Calm your crap down. A great any other unit will usually outscore them. Besides, the spotting that comes from snitches or heartbeat sensors I'm usually eternally grateful for when playing other characters. Love being able to shoot at people before they finish turning to see me.

I don't care how much you've played or how good your aim is - If you haven't touched the game at least twice in three months then I see your "opinion" as hot moot.

Like I said, the point is that it's extremely easy, not that it's not useful. For the amount of effort it actually takes, it's a crazy amount of XP.
For one example, Skyhammer's airstrike can effectively make an entire section of the map unplayable for several seconds, but he barely gets any XP for that alone, so why should the same not apply to spotting?

The point of recons is to hold people down in certain areas, not just to spot people. But as it is, you can still do extremely well without even being able to aim at all. And if you can't aim as a recon, you're better off as someone like a medic or engi.
OP's wording was a bit different from what I would have chosen, but they make a good point Giving a player XP even though they suck, when they could probably do much better as pretty much anyone else is bad encouragement.
Is it the end of the world? No. But well, seeing a 5/15 K/D sniper who refuses to switch because they're getting a lot of XP anyways isn't that fun, for the sniper or the teammates.

Part of the issue is that currently there are many new players who don't seem to mind being spotted and keep the heartbear sensor or SNITCH alive until it expires. If they'd used the Bomb Squad perk to make it easier to spot and destroy detection devices, top scoring as sniper would be much harder.

There is no ELO acronym, the Elo rating is named after the guy who invented it.

My clan mates started doing this for @$!# and giggles, and the amount of XP they end up with at the end of a match is just insane. Good thing they also got proper aim. :D

    Ah, so it's the spotting..

I'm often an Aura and thus I can fully understand, but yeah there's no way a detector is as useful as a healing station. Especially when you generally already know where the enemy spawns from/is/is likely to be.

It definitely has its uses on open maps like Bridge where attackers can come from three different directions on the first objective. A well placed spotting device next to the EV helps alot there!

Slapping it on bridge or using it at the dip in the wall is literally perfect, covers two paths either way. At Bridge is usually better as it alerts entire team to the person trying to repair.

I played a match today where i got the most kills (like 30-something) as nader and still got outscored by a vassili that went 3/12. spotting exp is absurd

They just need to remove score and stats from the game or at least have the stats at the end of the match. Can't stand being in a match with several people on my team going for high score rather than the OBJ. Oh, and remove levels, I really don't care if they are level 5 or level 200, I've seen some low lvls play like pro's. Just my two cents.

Levels and scores give me a good idea of which players I need to support, especially when I play medic. It's one of the main reasons I disliked CMM, because you have no indication of whether or not you can trust that Aura to get the job done, or if you should back them up.
The higher a player's level, the more experience they have, meaning on average the better they'll be. Of course there are exceptions, but in general its a good indication of what to expect form that player

Besides, DB's score system is balanced for the most part. Generally the best way to get XP is to just help your team and play like usual.

No, score should be an incentive for noobs. So far it had been good: you had lots of points for escorting, repairing, healing, the 3 most important things in the game. But this is now gone.

Worse, I think it's not just Vasilli, it's obj points that have been reduced to nothing now. Last match I was in Terminal in a team full of noobs. Well guess what, despite being the only one having planted, 3x, with no one protecting, despite also being the only one with a positive K/D ratio, I ended up last on board. And who was at the top? Sniper of course.

So I was litterally the noobest of the match, according to the game, for being the only one caring about the obj.

If you remove the only incentive to play for objs, who's gonna do it & why? For your team to win? People don't @$!# care!

Points for planting have always been low, btw. I don't understand why - whether your plant succeeds or fails generally doesn't depend on you, but the whole team. Planting should be way more rewarding than a successful objective, the game should motivate players to try. True, you're generally at the top of the board if you keep planting over & over and one plant succeeds, but by experience I know that no matter how many times I've planted, if none of them succeeded, I'll be last on board.

Oh and lvls are important. You've seen "some" low lvls play like pro's? But how many? 2% low lvls playing like pro's (& they're likely to be smurfs anyway) totally make lvls meaningful.
I don't care about lvls above 30 or 40, but one thing is sure, if you're on the side full of <lvl10's, unless some of them are good smurfs, you are @$!#, no need to play (or bother casting a vote that won't pass).
That's also why ranked hides lvls, because you'd already know who'd win the match upfront.
